Content of the programme
You will work with certain geography problems of your own choosing.
The work methods of the programme include classroom teaching, project work and field studies. So as a student you will receive both academic and practical knowledge as well as analytical and methodological qualifications.
The programme gives you a solid foundation for conducting complex analyses of local, national and global problems on an interdisciplinary basis.![]()
Structure
You can design your MSc studies in geography and geoinformatics in two different ways, depending on whether you choose to write a one-year or a six-month Master's thesis. Further, you can choose to supplement your graduate studies with a commercial project or studies abroad. It is also possible to supplement with courses offered by other departments or universities in Denmark.
As a graduate student doing a 30-ECTS-credit-point thesis:
- Courses in geography and geoinformatics equalling 60 ECTS credit points
- Elective courses equalling 30 ECTS credit points
- Thesis equalling 30 ECTS credit points

Master's thesis project
It is a good idea for you to select a topic for your Master's thesis early in your studies. In this way you can, with the assistance of a professor, select the elective courses that best fit your academic profile.
The thesis is the conclusion of your course of study and gives you the opportunity to do a project in which you work with a scientific problem within your specific fields of interest. The thesis can comprise both text analysis and fieldwork. You may choose a topic that is associated with your supervisor's research projects, or you may work with research enterprises or industry.![]()
Career opportunities
Geographers are both generalists, who can think interdisciplinarily and incorporate different perspectives, and specialists, who are experts within one area. This combination of ‘breadth' and ‘depth' means that geographers find employment in many different areas, including:
- Private sector, e.g. consulting engineering firms
- Public administration, e.g. as urban planners, project coordinators, environmental workers, part-time consultants, business development consultants, student and career counsellors or as academic workers in international organisations such as MS Danish Association for International Co-operation and the UN, which includes working in the third world.
- Consultants for special interest groups
- Researchers and upper secondary school teachers

Admission requirements
The admission requirements are described in §4 of the curriculum.
Tuition fees and application
You can find information about tuition fees and how to apply for the programme under Admission.
